Day 2 will focus on the potential for wind energy to promote economic development in the North East of Brazil through the construction of wind parks and through the manufacturing industry.

9.45 - Panel 1 - Bahia

This session will review the manufacturing hub for wind equipment which is being established in the State of Bahia, the largest state in the North East region of Brazil, at the Camaçari industrial complex. GE is set to join Alstom and Gamesa at Camaçari, where wind equipment manufacturing companies benefit from favourable conditions including reduced rents, tax exemptions and favourable loan rates for the construction of manufacturing plants from Brazil's develoment banks, BNDES and the regional development bank of the North East of Brazil, Banco do Nord Est (BNB). Camaçari is also the base for manufacturing plants owned by tower manufacturer, Torrebras (WINDAR Renovables) and steel manufacturer Dacero (which supplies towers).

The session will also provide an overview of the opportunities for project development in the State of Bahia - in particular the 'semi-arid' areas in the centre of the state.

11.00 - Panel 2 - Ceará

Ceará is a key state for wind project development in the North East of Brazil and the Porto do Pecém (port) region, close to State capital Fortaleza, is also a key manufacturing centre. The Porto do Pecém is home to companies including Vestas, Suzlon (which has invested in a blade factory in the state) and Fuhrlander. This session will focus on opportunities for investment in the wind sector in the state.
