Indian wind turbine manufacturer, Suzlon, plans to build a manufacturing plant in the state of Ceará, Northeast Brazil. Suzlon President, Arthur Lavieri, is reported to have confirmed that the factory will start manufacturing in February next year. Lavieri said "The idea is to expand our business in the region of Ceará; 170 of our 200 staff are already (in Ceará)." He noted that 183 turbines have been supplied by the company for the Brazilian market - of which 170 are located in Ceará. The state of Ceará plans a training programme to help create a qualified workforce for the growing wind manufacturing industry in the state.
In January this year Suzlon secured an order from Martifer Group for 104 units of the company's s88-2.1 MW turbines, for a 218 MW project across the states of Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. When completed, that order will take Suzlon's total installalled capacity in Brazil to 600 MW. The company entered the Brazilian market in 2006 and as at January 2011 had a 42% market share, according to Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency ANEEL.
