Mauricio Tolmasquim will deliver the keynote speech during the opening session of BWEC 2012 on 2 April 2012. Mauricio Tolmasquim is the President and CEO of EPE – Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (Energy Research Company), which is affiliated to Brazil's Ministry of Mines & Energy. He is a Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, has a Doctorate in Economics and has published widely, both in Brazil and internationally. Prior to joining EPE, Dr Tolmasquim was an Executive Secretary at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, where he led the team which designed a new model for Brazil's electricity sector. He has served as Counselor for Furnas Eletricity and Itaipu Binacional and coordinated the Technical Committee at the Brazilian Science Academy - and was is a former President of the Brazilian Society for Energy Planning.
